Luisa Beltran, a proud Pinay, cemented her name in the history books by becoming the first ever Bride of the World winner.
I literally took a photo of the tv screen.
I caught the tail-end of the pageant's rerun while on vacation in Singapore, where Bride of the World 2010 was held. I wasn't really paying attention until I heard the host call out "Miss Philippines" as one of the finalists.
Being the last among the finalists in queue, Luisa didn't get to pick her mystery question, so she was asked (I'm paraphrasing here), "What is the bravest thing a person can do?" A super broad - and therefore super tough - question to answer, given the time pressure and hundreds of eyeballs staring at her.
What was her response?
"Having a family." Good answer.
It was like a calculus midterm exam versus an arithmetic pop quiz!
The judges seemed to have taken that into consideration (on top of her good looks and grace) because they gave Miss Philippines the crown.
napanood ko din yan. she was really the best of them all. siyempre pinay din kasi ako, hihihi.
